Rs. 245cr bridge project to fast track Kalyan - Dombivli

In order to fast track the construction work on the creek bridge on a stretch between Mankoli and Motagaon on the Ulhas creek, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has recently completed the tendering process after which the work on the 1,266 metre long project is set to start very shortly, said official sources claiming that the project, which will connect the National Highway-3 with the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation area, will also provide connectivity between NH-3 and Kalyan bypass.

Apart from this, the project is also expected to benefit the far-off eastern suburbs of Mumbai Metropolitan Region, besides reducing the traffic congestion on the NH-3 and NH-8. As per plans, the traffic will be diverted directly via Kalyan Ring Road-Katai Naka-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Link Road to Khopoli on NH-4 without trudging through Mumbra, Kalamboli and Panvel. According to the feasibility study carried out by the authority, it was decided that constructing a road at grade was impossible in this area because of a huge mangrove belt, environmental clearance related issues and slushy area surrounding and parallel to the railway track. Hence the construction of a creek bridge was finalized by the authority, said official sources.
